Common FAQs

Please be aware this is advice only. For legal reasons we can’t give direct information for end users to make “home” repairs on their appliances. Only trained engineers should perform such tasks.

My washing machine won’t drain?

Some machines have user serviceable filters; please refer to your user manual. If the pump filter is clear you will need to arrange a engineer visit to have you’re machine looked at.

My washing machine will not spin?

There could be a few reasons for this – Firstly try to re-set the programme and try again, some machines have balance sensors, if the machine detects an uneven load it will not spin. It may be the carbon brushes in the motor need replacing. This is something you can do your self but it is not recommended as if not done correctly you can cause severe damage to the electrics of the machine.

My washing machine is making loud banging noises on the spin cycle?

Again there can be a few reasons for this – Check the pump filter for obvious blockages, make sure the load is even and not over loaded (a full load should be no more than ½ - ¾ capacity “dry”) there may something (a small item of clothing like a sock)  stuck in between the inner and outer drums. Another reason could be that the bearings in your machine could have collapsed “has the machine been noisy recently?” this can be repaired, again not recommended for diy please call for costing.

My washing machine is leaking?

There could be lots of reasons why your machine is leaking our advice would be to turn the machine off and isolate the water supply and call an engineer take a look at it.

My fridge freezer isn’t making a noise at the back but the lights are in inside?

Is the temperature inside both units ok? If you are not sure put a thermometer inside and close the door for about 20-30 min’s the fridge should read between 0 - 5 dc and the freezer between minus 18 - 20o if they do not there could be a few reasons for this but none are recommended for diy and an engineer visit will be required.

There is a large amount of ice inside my fridge?

Firstly make sure that the thermostat dial has not been turned up by accident (my kids do it all the time). The dial can work one of two ways – (assuming numbers are 1-5) 1 = coldest 5 = warmest or 1 = warmest & 5 = coldest this is the more common version, the dial should be set to around 2-3 if the dial needs adjusting, it takes at least 12 hours for it to take effect. Note: turn the unit off leave the door open for about 20 mins and knock the ice off. Once you have done this listen to the fridge if it seems to run constantly over a few hours you will need to call an engineer.

My food in my freezer isn’t frozen but the freezer is cold?

This tends to happen with frost free appliances, the internal thermisters break down and cause the freezer to freeze up and the fridge gets its cool from an internal duct from the freezer, if the freezer fan is iced stuck or the duct is blocked with ice it will not let/send the cool to the fridge, there are other reason (so many with frost free) but again nothing I can advise for diy other than to arrange an engineer visit.

My dryer isn’t drying my clothes?

There a few possible reasons for this, depending on make & model sometimes there is a re-settable TOC at the rear of the appliance, if there is one push it if it cliks hay presto you’ve fixed it, this generally blows because of excessive fluff build up on the filter. If it is a condenser dryer the same applies but it could also be the condenser filter (normally located at the bottom of the machine) if this is blocked the clothes will come out hot and wet, run the condenser under a tap or hose until clean, if this does not work you will need to arrange an engineer visit.

My oven is not getting hot?

There a few possible reasons for this, it could either be the thermostat or the elements that may need replacing. This is something we would not recommend for diy and advise you call an engineer.

My oven burns all my food?

The most common fault for this would be a faulty thermostat and we would recommend an engineer to repair.

One ring on my hob isn’t getting hot?
There a few possible reasons it could either be the thermostat or the elements that may need replacing. This is something we would not recommend for diy and advise you call an engineer.
My dishwasher isn’t cleaning my dishes?
Check your spray arms and filters to make sure there not clogged up. If problem persists you may need to arrange a visit from an engineer.
My dishwasher is leaking?
There could be lots of reasons why your machine is leaking, check as above, make sure the door is closing properly, sometimes it can even be the way something is placed in a dishwasher, try it empty if it still leaks our advice would be to turn it off and have an engineer take a look at it.
No water seems to be going into my Dishwasher/Washing machine?
Have you had any building or plumbing work done recently? If you have make sure they have not accidentally turned of the water supply to the appliance. Make sure the power is turned on at the plug, with a washing machine make sure the door is shut and locked, if all the above looks ok its time to call the professionals.
